Indian actor Sabu Dastagir stars as the young Prince Azim of Tokot who finds his life suddenly become very dangerous when he's forced to flee his usurping uncle and accept protection from the British Raj.
Plummy-voiced Roger Livesey plays the Raj's stalwart envoy to Tokot who must find a way to stop the import of weapons to the evil new Khan, Raymond Massey, who is fomenting a rebellion.
All three actors play their parts very well, with Massey especially attacking his villainous role with gusto.

Subject: Lost Audio Track
This could have been one of the best films on the Archive if the audio would work right. I tried watching on Google Chrome/Firefox on my PC and nobody was in sinc. I love British films and love anything written about the East Indian peoples because I find them to be some of the nicest people I have met in my life. I loved the scenery and the drums but would have loved to get the dialog right. It doesn't make sense the way it is now. Maybe it is just the browser I'm using. Sure hope it gets straightened out because I really want to watch it.

Subject: Rule Britannia
This is a well made and entertaining movie. Yes, it is pro-Empire-propaganda and it´s view of the british as a necessary peace keeping force in "uncivilized" regions is obviously dated.

The cast is great, Raymond Massey is a marvellous villain, child actor Sabu is his usual self, a boy, as brave as naive. Most of the actors involved in this production are often here at IA, for example Francis L. Sullivan (governor). He is the villain in "Non Stop New York". And the drummer boy. . . well, I like him, but if you consider him being a nerd, look what happens to him in Hitchcock´s "Sabotage". Desmond Tester is also in "Non Stop New York", this time not playing the drum, but violin and saxophone.

There is no problem with the audio except that my Windows Media Player won´t play it, but my VLC player does!!! So maybe anyone with comparable problems should download a proper audio codec for his media player or install VLC player. It works! At least for me.

I'm listening to it right now. Other reviewer is ill-informed again.

Subject: A pro-empire film
One of the most interesting shots happens at the start when a globe spins around with all the British Empire territories colored in pink and casually reminding us how much of the world they controlled in 1938. Canada... Africa... Australia... India!

Not an awful movie as movie, probably terrible as a documentary on Britain's relationship with India.

It depicts the British as rather civil overlords of India but doesn't give us any reason the Indians should be enthused by that. Perhaps they start from the premise that the British should be loved because they are British.

It doesn't have the epic quality of the Kordas' vastly superior "Four Feathers" but is entertaining none-the-less as a guilty pleasure.

I found much of the dialog on this file unintelligible; I recommend renting a proper DVD instead.

Subject: Wow...
That was so much better than I thought it was going to be.

Fantastic sets and scenery (in technicolor), an interesting, well-acted story and men in kilts.

I give a very large recommendation to WATCH THIS!!! It's a good one!
